Youth Baseball and Softball Opens Next Month in Nebraska

Youth baseball and softball teams in Nebraska can start practices on June 1st, while games can begin on June 18th.  Those dates were announced yesterday by Governor Pete Ricketts.

The practices and games will be subject to several guidelines to keep participants safe from COVID-19.  Those guidelines include only allowing household members of players to attend games.  They must bring their own chairs as they won’t be allowed to sit in the bleachers.  And concession stands will remain closed.

Organized practices for other team sports remain suspended.  Ricketts said baseball and softball are being allowed to open first because of the limited contact between players.

Also on June 1st, schools can reopen weight rooms to student-athletes.  As with fitness centers, there will be a limit of 10 people in the weight room with six feet of separation.
