CHS Batters Go 0-12 With RISP in District Semifinal Loss
Columbus High’s baseball team wasn’t able to come up with clutch hits Saturday, as the Discoverers dropped a 6-3 decision at Millard West in the A-2 district semifinals.
CHS had its leadoff man reach base in six of the seven innings, but the Discoverers went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Columbus took a 2-0 lead without the benefit of a hit in the top of the second. The Wildcats used four stolen bases and three errors by the Discoverers to score three runs in the third and go up 3-2. Each team tallied a run in the fourth, before Millard West closed the scoring with a two-run double in the sixth.
Columbus wound up the season with an 8-18 record.
Top-seeded Millard West advanced to the district final, where the Wildcats lost to No. 2 seed Elkhorn South 5-3. Both teams made the Class A state tournament and will have a rematch in next Friday’s quarterfinals.
