State Hoops Tourneys Open Today, Six Area Teams on Air

The boys and girls state basketball tournaments open today.

A total of 96 teams and their fans will converge on Lincoln for the quarterfinals today and tomorrow.  The girls and boys tourneys had to be combined this year since Nebraska played host to the Big Ten wrestling meet last weekend, when girls hoops would normally finish at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

You can hear play-by-play of six area teams’ quarterfinal games today and three more tomorrow.  Today, a pair of girls C1 contests will air on KZ-100: North Bend faces Malcolm at 1:30 and St. Paul meets GICC at 3:15 p.m.  Two other games have 3:15 tipoffs: in boys C2 action on KLIR 101, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family battles Howells-Dodge in a rematch of last year’s D1 championship, while Riverside takes on Loomis in a boys D1 matchup on 93.5 The Hawk.  And tonight at 6 p.m. on KLIR, St. Francis meets Diller-Odell in a girls D2 game.
