The Lakeview softball team won two of three games in the Freeman Tournament at Lincoln on Saturday. 

The Vikings dropped their opening game to Polk County 10-2 in five innings.  But, Lakeview freshman Hannah Allen pitched a pair of shutouts to lead the Vikings to an 8-0 win in five innings over Weeping Water and a 10-0 victory in four frames over South Sioux City.  On the day, Allen worked ten innings, allowing three hits and one walk while notching 17 strikeouts. 

Sophomore Haley Frenzen hit for the cycle on the day with five hits and five RBI, and Junior Abbie Scholl was 7-for-10 with one RBI and three runs.  Lakeview is 2-2 on the season. 

The Columbus High softball club lost both ends of a home doubleheader against ranked Lincoln Southwest on Saturday. 

The Discoverers dropped the opener 6-3 and were blanked by the Silver Hawks 8-0 in the nightcap.  Columbus fell to 0-4 on the year.  The Discoverers will host Omaha Westside Thursday night. 

Meantime, Twin River softball coach Renae Van Driel hit a career milestone last week.  The Titans opened their season Thursday by winning both games of a triangular at Schuyler.  Their 12-0 victory over the Warriors was the 350th win of Van Driel’s coaching career.
