Only Word Tuesday on Big Ten Football Was An Accident

While recent media reports have suggested the Big Ten could kick off its football season as soon as October 17th, there was no official announcement from the conference yesterday on the controversial matter.

There was an accidental, hopeful statement from UNL President Ted Carter that was picked up on a hot mic prior to a news conference on a different topic.

In a video posted by KETV, Carter could be heard saying, “We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight.”  As it turned out, no announcement was made.

The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted 11-3 on August 11th to postpone all fall sports.  If another vote is taken, nine yes votes are needed to play football in the fall afterall.
