As the state volleyball tournament opened yesterday, Lakeview made some history. 

Playing in their first state tourney match since 1981, the Vikings posted a three-set sweep over Syracuse in the C1 quarterfinals at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Vikings downed the Rockets 25-16, 25-16, 30-28. 

Three Lakeview players finished in double figures in kills, with Lilly Rowe leading the way with 13, Mallori Kucera with 12 and Katee Korte had 10.  Kucera added four blocks, and Reese Janssen had four of Lakeview’s seven ace serves, while leading the offensive attack with 43 set assists. 

The Vikings, now 29-5, will face undefeated Wahoo in tomorrow’s semifinals.  The 2 p.m. match will air on KLIR 101.    

Top-seeded Wahoo improved to 33-0 yesterday with a three-set sweep of Adams Central. 

Number 2 seed St. Paul is also 33-0 after downing Broken Bow in three sets.  The Wildcats will meet Lincoln Lutheran in Friday’s semifinals, after the sixth-seeded Warriors upset Kearney Catholic 3-1.

St. Paul’s semifinal tomorrow will be broadcast on 93.5 The Hawk with first serve around 3:30 p.m.
