Sierra Hassel of the Nebraska women’s gymnastics program has been selected as the Big Ten’s nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Hassel is among 161 candidates across all three NCAA divisions nominated for this year’s honor.  It has been presented annually to a senior female student-athlete who has excelled in athletics, academics, service and leadership.

Hassel won the Nebraska Female Student Athlete of the Year Award last year.  She was a First Team All-Big Ten selection the past two seasons, won the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 2020, and earned scholastic all-american honors the past two years.

Two Huskers have won the award since it was first presented in 1991: volleyball standout Billie Winsett-Fletcher in 1996 and track and field athlete Angela Mercurio last year.
