Discoverers Go 1-1 Tuesday in HAC Baseball Tourney

Columbus High’s baseball team went 1-1 yesterday as the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament opened in Lincoln.
In their first game, the Discoverers got by Grand Island 2-1. The Islanders scored a run in the top of the first inning, but Columbus tallied its two runs in the third inning. CHS starter Ryan Eickhoff tossed six-and-a-third innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out five. Trevor Schumacher got the final two outs, working around a walk, to record a save.
In the second game, the Discoverers fell to Lincoln East 8-2. The Spartans snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring five runs in the third inning. Columbus is 9-8 on the season.
