Discoverers Boys Win Wild Double-Overtime Game vs. Norfolk
Columbus High’s boys basketball team survived a wild 74-73, double overtime win over Maroon Cup rival Norfolk last night.
The two teams were tied at 58-all after regulation. The Discoverers rallied from a 65-60 deficit in the first overtime to tie it at 67-all and send it to the second extra period. With the game tied at 73-all and 1.9 seconds left, Griffin Micek missed the first of two free throws, but made the second.
Luke Messersmith led CHS with 21 points and Micek had 16, with both players leading the Discoverers with five points each after regulation. Columbus has won five of its last seven games and is 6-14.
In the girls game, the Discoverers were edged 39-36, slipping to 9-11. The Columbus teams play their final regular season home games next Tuesday against Lincoln Southeast.
