CU Suspends McDermott for “Plantation” Remark

Creighton University has suspended basketball coach Greg McDermott for using racially insensitive language while addressing his team. 

McDermott publicly apologized this week for urging his players to “stay on the plantation” after the 14th-ranked Bluejays’ 77-69 loss at Xavier last Saturday. 

McDermott coached in CU’s 72-60 loss at number 10 Villanova on Wednesday night. 

Assistant coach Alan Huss will serve as Creighton’s interim head coach.  The Jays host Butler tomorrow.
