CHS Swimming Team to Compete in 10 Events at State Meet

Columbus High’s swimming team will compete in the state swimming meet that opens today in Lincoln.  The Discoverers boys qualified for six events, while the CHS girls are swimming in four events. 

On the boys side, senior Ben Jacobs will swim in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events, while senior Josue Mendez competes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke.  Both are also part of Columbus’ 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. 

In girls action, senior Maddi Schulz qualified individually for the 100-yard backstroke.  Schulz is also part of three CHS relay teams in the 200 medley, and the 200 and 400 freestyle events.

The state tournament runs through Saturday at the Devaney Sports Center, with 280 fans allowed for today’s diving, but no fans allowed for tomorrow’s swimming prelims or Saturday’s finals.
