23 Local Boys, Nine City Girls Make State Wrestling Meet

A total of 23 city boys wrestlers qualified Saturday for the state meet Feb 15-17. 

A dozen grapplers from Columbus High, nine from Lakeview and two from Scotus finished in the top four of their weight divisions in district meets.  Two local boys won district championships.  Columbus senior Brenyn Delano finished first in the A-1 district meet at Lincoln North Star, while Lakeview sophomore Jakson McFarland earned gold in the B-4 district in Aurora, with both competing at 126 pounds. 

In girls wrestling district action on Friday, the Vikings earned the team title in the A-2 meet at York and will be represented by seven wrestlers at state.  Two Discoverers girls qualified for the trip to CHI Health Center in Omaha. 

Area boys teams that won district titles (with their number of state qualifiers) were St. Paul (nine), Aquinas (seven) and High Plains (four). 

State wrestling reports will be broadcast Thursday through Saturday on KZ-100 and KLIR 101.
