Volleyball Day Draws Record-Setting Women’s Sports Crowd

Nebraska volleyball and its fans laid claim last night to the world record for the largest attendance at a women’s sporting event.

The attendance of 92,003 surpassed the previous record of 91,648 fans who watched a soccer match in Spain last year.  The Huskers posted their fourth straight sweep to open the season, beating Omaha 25-14, 25-14, 25-13.

NU coach John Cook called it “a magical night.”  The event began with Wayne State beating Nebraska-Kearney 3-0 in an exhibition match.

Nebraska plays its first road match of the season on Sunday, when the Huskers visit Kansas State.  First serve is set for 4 p.m.  The pregame begins at 3 on News Talk 900 KJSK.
