Troy Dannen Hired as Nebraska’s Athletic Director

Troy Dannen has been hired as Nebraska’s athletic director.

NU’s interim president Chris Kabourek announced the hire, which is effective Friday, shortly after it was reported by ESPN as a six-year contract.

Dannen has been the athletic director at the University of Washington for less than a year.  He spent the previous eight years as Tulane’s AD and the Marshalltown, Iowa native held the same post at Northern Iowa.

In a news release announcing the move, Kabourek called Dannen a “fierce competitor” who “holds himself and his programs to uncommonly high standards.”  Dannen called joining Nebraska an honor, noting he has spent a lot of time in the state and saying he shares “a similar approach to life, work and sports: work hard, stay humble, compete and expect to win.”  Head football coach Matt Rhule said: “The fact that someone of Troy’s caliber wants to join Team Nebraska will light a fire across our entire department.”
