Ternus Wins Gold, Sets School and City Records in Shot Put

A Lakeview athlete made history to highlight the opening day of state track Wednesday in Omaha.

Landon Ternus won the gold medal in the Class B boys shot put.  Ternus broke his own school record with a throw of 61-feet-7 3/4 inches, tops in city prep history.

Five other local and area athletes earned medals on Wednesday.  In the Class A boys shot put, Columbus High’s Liam Blaser took fourth.  In Class B girls action, Kyra Bowen of Scotus was seventh in the long jump and Lakeview’s Erinn Briggs finished eighth in the discus.  In the same class in the boys meet, St. Paul’s Jonah Paulson won bronze in the triple jump and Boone Central’s Trent Patzel earned eighth place in the shot put.

The Class A and B meet continues today, with action in Class C and D to follow on Friday and Saturday.  You can hear state track updates all three days, starting around 11 a.m. each day, on KLIR 101 and KZ-100.
