Teen Sentenced to 34-46 Years For Sexual Assault

STANTON- On Monday in Stanton County District Court, 17-year-old Gabriel Safty, of Rural Leigh was given a prison sentence of 34 to 46 years in prison following his conviction for First Degree Sexual Assault, False Imprisonment and Terroristic Threats.

Safty was arrested last April by the Stanton County Sheriff’s office following a reported aggravated sexual assault at another rural Leigh residence where he had forced entry into the residence and assaulted an adult female threatening her with a replica firearm and tying her up with a martial arts belt. He then stole her SUV and it was located by the Sheriff’s office on Highway 32 and pursued into Cuming County where his vehicle was disabled and he fled on foot. He was taken into custody shortly after hiding and later confessed to his actions in the sexual assault during an interview at the Sheriff’s office. Safty has been in custody since April 21 of last year.

He will be required to register as a lifetime sex offender upon his release from prison.
