Osceola-High Plains won the Class D1 state football championship yesterday with a 40-34 win over Burwell.

The Stormdogs built a 40-14 lead by hafltime and hung on for the victory.  With less than two minutes left in the game, the Longhorns appeared to have converted a fourth down and two at the Stormdogs’ 20, but on the play Burwell suffered its fifth lost fumble of the contest.

Dylan Soule led Osceola-High Plains with 23 carries for 145 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned a block punt for a score.

The Stormdogs finished 11-2 and, in the final year of a two-year co-op, claimed the first state football title for either Osceola or High Plains.
