State Soccer: Scotus Girls Upset, Schuyler Boys Play Tomorrow

Scotus was upset in the opening round of the Class B girls state soccer tournament last night.

The third-seeded Shamrocks fell to number-6 seed Omaha Mercy 2-1 in overtime.  Scotus scored 23 seconds into the quarterfinal and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.  Mercy tied the match early in the second half and it was tied at 1-all at the end of regulation.  Neither club scored in the first overtime, before the Monarchs scored the deciding goal with 2:39 left in the second overtime.  The Shamrocks finished with a 14-3 record.

The loss left the Schuyler boys as the only one of four area teams still alive in the tourney.  The Warriors meet top-seeded Bennington in tomorrow’s Class B semifinals.  Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on KLIR 101.
