Several Athletes Headed for State Cross Country Meets

Two Columbus High girls qualified for next week’s state cross country meet yesterday. 

In the A-4 district meet at Lincoln’s Pioneers Park, Melissa Gomez-Vazquez finished ninth and Hailey Kropatsch just made the state cut in 15th place.  The Discoverers girls finished fifth as a team. 

The Columbus boys were sixth, with no individuals making next week’s state meet in Kearney. 

In the girls C-3 district meet at Wayne, Scotus took first and Lakeview was second as both teams qualified for state.  The Shamrocks’ Hannah Heinrich won the girls gold medal.  Elle Badstieber had the best finish for the Vikings, coming in fifth. 

On the boys side, Jude Maguire of Scotus made state by placing tenth.  Scotus was fifth as a team, while Lakeview was eighth.  And Boone Central is headed for Kearney after taking second.
