Parts Of Platte Center Evacuated Thursday Due To Flooding

PLATTE CENTER- Flooding in and around Platte Center forced some residents to evacuate their homes Thursday night.

According to Platte County Emergency Management Director Tim Hofbauer, Elm Creek flooded parts of Platte Center forcing residents south of Main Street to evacuate to St. Joseph’s Hall. Water has since receded and everyone has been allowed to return to their homes. Shell Creek has flooded forcing Highway 81 from Humphrey to Columbus to be closed.

Hofbauer says 5.5 inches of rain fell near Tarnov causing the flooding on Shell Creek.
