One Person Dead After Collision Near Newman Grove

NEWMAN GROVE- On Thursday at 5:00 p.m., the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle vehicle accident one mile west of Highway 45 on Highway 91.

The investigation indicated that a pickup driven by 75-year-old John Sellhorst, of Newman Grove, had been traveling eastbound on Highway 91, when the pickup he was driving crossed the centerline colliding with a westbound water truck, driven by 31-year-old Yasmanis Varela Marti, of Grand Island. Sellhorst was pronounced dead at the scene. Sellhorst was the lone occupant of the pickup and was not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Marti, the lone occupant of the truck, was not injured in the collision.

The accident remains under investigation.
