Ill-Advised Onside Kick Flips Momentum in Huskers’ Loss

An ill-advised onside kick by Nebraska early in the third quarter with the Huskers leading 28-17 helped Northwestern flip the momentum in a 31-28 Wildcats’ win Saturday in Dublin, Ireland.

After the game, Nebraska coach Scott Frost said he thought if the Huskers recovered it “we could end the game.”   “You can’t really forsee them scoring 14 straight and us sputtering after we’d play well to start the second half on offense,” Frost said, before adding: “Again those are excuses.  If I had it to do over, I wouldn’t make the call.”

Nebraska’s home opener is this Saturday against North Dakota.  Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
