Howells-Dodge Girls Downed by Overton in State Semifinals

Howells-Dodge was defeated by No. 1 seed Overton 57-43 in the girls state basketball tournament semifinals Friday night at the Devaney Sports Center. 

The fourth-seeded Jaguars were only down by five points, 26-21 at the half.  The Eagles were up 38-30 by the end of the third quarter and pulled away in the final period to advance to Saturday’s Class D2 championship. 

Howells-Dodge earned third place in the tourney Saturday afternoon with a 46-28 win over 2023 D2 state champion Falls City Sacred Heart.  The Jaguars wound up with a 15-11 record.   

In Saturday night’s championship, Overton got by No. 3 seed Wynot 44-40 as the Eagles concluded a 28-1 campaign and claimed their first-ever state title.
