Defense, Borer Lift Boone Central to State Football Title

Boone Central used a stifling defense and two rushing touchdowns from senior Parker Borer in the second half to shutout Wahoo 12-0 in today’s Class C1 state football championship.

The game was scoreless until the third quarter, when Borer capped a 12-play, 53-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run, giving the Cardinals a 6-0 lead.  Borer sprinted for a 61-yard touchdown run with 5-minutes-17-seconds left in the game to account for the only other score.  The Cardinals star running back wound up with 25 carries for 127 yards, going over 2,000 rushing yards this season late in the game.

Boone Central’s defense held the Warriors to 76 total yards, only two yards coming after halftime.

The Cardinals finished 13-0 and won their third state title in history, with the others being in 2014 and 2001.

Wahoo went 12-1 and came up short in its bid for a second championship in the past five seasons and all-time.
