Cornerstone Drops Pair at North Platte on Sunday

The Cornerstone Insurance Group Columbus Seniors were swept in a doubleheader at North Platte yesterday.

In the opener, Cornerstone fell behind 5-0 after the first inning en route to a 10-5 loss.  The Seniors scored two runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap to 6-3, but North Platte answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.  Columbus scored two runs in its final at-bat.

In the second game, Cornerstone led 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, but the home club rallied for two runs to post the walkoff win.  Columbus starter Kaden Young notched nine strikeouts in 6-and-a-third innings of work.

Cornerstone, which was also swept in twinbills last week by Grand Island and Hastings, has lost six straight games to fall to 3-9.  The Seniors will host Elkhorn Wednesday in a single game.  First pitch at Pawnee Park Baseball Field is set for 6:30 p.m.

Meantime, the Columbus United Federal Credit Union Junior Blues are at home tonight for a doubleheader against Grand Island.  The opening game starts at 5 p.m.
