Columbus Boys Bowling Team Wins District Title

The Columbus High boys bowling team is a district champion. 

The Discoverers won the A-6 district championship yesterday at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln.  They’ll return to the same venue next Wednesday and Thursday for the Class A state bowling tournament. 

CHS led the bracket qualifying scores at 3,071 – 420 points better than second place Grand Island.  Columbus downed Norfolk 3-1 in the semifinals, then defeated Lincoln Southwest 3-1 in the final.  Three Discoverers posted the top three individual scores, with Kelton Zimmerer at 674, Gavin Unger at 660 and Jacob Staub at 599. 

The Columbus High girls were seeded fifth after posting the lowest bracket qualifying team score of 1,730.  The Discoverers fell in the first round to Lincoln High 3-0. 

Taley Dittmar of CHS made the All-Tournament team by finishing seventh at 451.
