CHS Bowlers Unger, Holdsworth Win District Titles

Two Columbus High bowlers won A-5 district titles yesterday and head a few qualifiers for the state tournament.
Freshman Gavin Unger won the boys district crown with a score of 654. While the Discoverers did not qualify for state as a team after finishing second to Grand Island, CHS sophomore Ryland Prokopec is also heading to Lincoln after rolling a 557 for third place individually. Lakeview finished last in the boys’ six-team district tourney, but Vikings junior Trenton Ditter qualified for state with a top-8 finish as his 501 was good for seventh.
On the girls’ side, Columbus senior Alex Holdworth captured the district title with a 527. As a team, the Discoverers settled for a runnerup finish, with district champ Seward making state. Boone Central’s girls team was fourth, the same place as the Cardinals boys. Boone Central senior Elyssa Cuevas was a state qualifier after earning fourth place individually.
The Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family girls finished as the runnerup to Wayne in the A-4 district tourney, but the Bulldogs qualified for next week’s state tournament as one of two wild card teams. In that boys district, two Howells-Dodge bowlers – junior Ethan Haas-Oltrogge and senior Evan Haas – earned trips to Lincoln.
