Sharpe Diagnosed With Cancer, Set to Call Huskers vs. Bluejays
The voice of Nebraska football and baseball, Greg Sharpe, announced last night he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Sharpe made the announcement on Sports Nightly aired on News Talk 900 KJSK. He said he received the diagnosis a week or two ago and it involves the pancreatic region. Sharpe said his treatment could mean he misses some baseball game broadcasts and Sports Nightly shows. But, he added his goal is to “get this thing” and recover for football, predicting the Huskers will have a “fabulous season.”
Sharpe is expected to call NU baseball’s home game tonight against rival Creighton. It’s the second meeting of the season after the Bluejays beat the Huskers 5-3 earlier this month in Omaha.
First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. The pregame starts at 5:30 on KJSK.
