Riverside Tries to End State Tourney Foe’s 33-Game Win Streak

Riverside will take a seven-game winning streak into the opening round of the boys state basketball tournament this evening.

However, the No. 7 seed Chargers meet the Class D1 defending state champion in Johnson-Brock, which is riding a 33-game winning streak dating back to last season.  At 25-0 this season, the No. 2 seed Eagles are one of three teams with unbeaten records in Lincoln.  No. 1 Class B seed Crete is also 25-0 and Auburn is seeded third in Class C1 despite owning a 26-0 mark.

Riverside is making its seventh state tourney appearance in 10 seasons since Cedar Rapids and Spalding merged.  The Chargers are 17-7 and as the 13th seed in the district finals earned a road win over No. 4 seed McCool Junction.

Tonight’s game tips at 6 p.m. at the Devaney Sports Center and will be aired on 93.5 The Hawk.
