Rhule Disappointed About Gilbert, Alvano is Starting Kicker

The status of Nebraska tight end Arik Gilbert, already up in the air due to the NCAA, is more so now after his arrest early Tuesday in Lincoln.

Gilbert was arrested by Lincoln police and booked on a burglary charge in connection with a break-in at a liquor and vape shop.  The Georgia transfer has long awaited an NCAA ruling on his eligibility to play for the Huskers this season.

After Tuesday’s practice, Matt Rhule said he was still gathering information on the incident.  He said he was disappointed and sad for Gilbert, his family and the business owner.

Rhule also had news on NU’s kickers.  “Tristan Alvano will be the starting kicker in this game,” Rhule said.  He said kickoffs may be split between the freshman out of Omaha Westside, Timmy Bleekrode and Spencer Pankratz.

Rhule also announced that offensive lineman Teddy Prochazka and receiver Marcus Washington are “up and ready to play” adding both “have done a great job of battling back from injuries.”

The Huskers open their season at Minnesota Thursday night at 7 p.m.  The pregame starts at 3 p.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  It will be joined at 6:30 on 93.5 The Hawk.
