Creighton Sees Fall Sports Postponed by Big East

Creighton’s fall sports teams, including volleyball, won’t be playing a fall schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Big East announced the postponement of fall sports yesterday and will explore options for staging them next spring.  The decision also affects the Bluejays’ soccer and cross country teams. 

The Big East said decisions on winter and spring sports schedules will be made later. 

Creighton Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen released a statement following the postponement.  It said that while CU is confident it has the protocols in place to maintain a safe campus environment, traveling for competition was a concern. 

He added “playing the fall season would pose risks that we think are not acceptable for our student-athletes and our athletic staff.”
