Cougars Bow as Hadwiger Scores 30 Points for Amherst

Cross County’s historic boys basketball season has one game remaining, but unfortunately it won’t be for a Class C2 championship.

The fifth-seeded Cougars were downed by No. 1 seed Amherst 63-48 in Friday’s semifinals at the Devaney Sports Center.  The Broncos Tayje Hadwiger entered the tourney as one of the top scorers in any class at state by averaging almost 21 points per game.  He scored 30 Friday, exceeding his season average when he hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give him 24 at halftime and put Amherst up 35-21.

Ashton Seim led Cross County with 12 points.

UPDATE:  The Cougars earned the third place trophy in their first trip to state with a 59-50 win over Norfolk Catholic on Saturday.  Cross County finished with a 24-6 overall record, including 2-1 in the state tournament.
