Young Reaches 800 Career Wins Before Postseason Ends

CCC volleyball coach Mary Young reached a career milestone Thursday before the Raiders postseason ended.

In an elimination match of the NJCAA Division II national tournament, Central beat Carl Sandburg College 3-2, giving Young her 800th career win.  The Raiders took the match in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 17-25, 25-16, 16-25, 25-17, 15-9.

CCC’s Lauryn Scott had a match-high 22 kills, and Libbie Ball recorded a match-high 51 assists.  Now in her 28th season as Central’s head coach, Young had collected her 700th career victory during the Raiders’ last appearance in the national tournament in 2017.

However, in their second match of the day, CCC was swept by Kansas City Kansas CC, which won 25-19, 25-19, 25-21.  Central finished the season with a 21-17 record, including a 1-2 mark in the national tourney.
