Wright Out With Medical Condition, Starting QB Decision Coming
Nebraska starting inside linebacker Javin Wright is “out indefinitely” with a health condition.
Coach Matt Rhule announced the bad news on Saturday. He said Wright “was playing at an elite level,” but he still feels that position is a strength of the Huskers. John Bullock is expected to start at inside linebacker and Rhule mentioned Mikai Gbayor, Stefon Thompson, Vincent Shavers, Gage Stenger and Vince Genatone as players who could start.
“I think the strength of that unit will be fine,” Rhule said. “I just wanted to see Javin have an opportunity to play. He worked so hard, and I believe he’s a pro player.”
Rhule also said NU is close to announcing a starting quarterback, but added there’s not much value in doing that before the Monday of a game week, which is next Monday.
Nebraska opens its season August 31st with a home game against UTEP.
