Witt Makes HR Derby Finals, Omahan Bohm Comes Close
Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. made it to the finals of last night’s Home Run Derby and Omaha native Alec Bohm of the Philadelphia Phillies was nearly his foe in the final round.
But, it was the Los Angeles Dodgers Teoscar Hernandez who edged Witt 14-13 in the finals. Witt was the No. 2 overall pick by the Royals in 2019 out of a high school about 15 miles north of the Texas Rangers’ stadium, site of last night’s derby and tonight’s MLB All-Star Game.
To get to the derby finals, Hernandez won 16-15 in a swing-off tiebreaker in the second round over Bohm, who starred at Omaha Roncalli before playing college baseball at Wichita State.
