Wilcher, Mast Help Huskers Rally, Stun No. 6 Wisconsin

C.J. Wilcher came off the bench to help Nebraska stun No. 6 Wisconsin 80-72 in overtime last night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers trailed 27-8 midway through the first half and were down 47-29 with less than 16 minutes remaining.  But, Wilcher matched his career high with 22 points, 16 coming in the second half.

Rienk Mast had 20 points and eight rebounds for the Huskers, whose last three wins over Wisconsin all featured double-digit comebacks.  Nebraska has defeated a pair of opponents ranked in the top six this season for the first time since 1957-58, when Hoiberg’s grandfather, Jerry Bush, was the Husker head coach.

The Badgers, who were up by 16 at the half, had been 120-0 when leading by 15 or more points at halftime since 2000.

NU visits No. 14 Illinois Sunday at 5:30 p.m.   The pregame begins at 4:30 on News Talk 900 KJSK.
