White Wants NU Defense to Improve on Takeaways and Third Downs

Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White agreed last night with what coach Matt Rhule identified this week as the biggest focus for the Huskers on both sides of the football – turnovers.

Speaking on Sports Nightly, White said that’s been “the number one deal” and also mentioned one other aspect he wants his unit to improve on from last season.  “The number one thing that we have to do on defense is take the ball away,” White said.  “Takeaways and third downs.  In those two elements of the game, I didn’t go as good of a job in giving the guys a plan and really repping it.”

White also praised John Butler, who recently replaced Evan Cooper as secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator.  White noted the veteran coach has a lot of energy, along with knowledge and experience.
