Whipple, Thompson Address Offense’s Bad Day Wednesday

Nebraska offensive coordinator Mark Whipple admitted after Wednesday’s practice that his unit struggled yesterday.

“We had a bad day today,” Whipple said. “I think the guys were tired, they felt sorry for themselves.  Defense did a nice job today….a couple turnovers.”

Whipple said when the offense is struggling, the quarterbacks have to “take control.”  He said of QB’s Casey Thompson and Chubba Purdy: “those two guys I got on today a little bit.”

Thompson said of yesterday’s practice: “It was one of the few days the defense beat us.”  But, Thompson had a little different take than Whipple on what the Huskers’ offense needs.

“Quite honestly, we need more people to speak up on offense,” Thompson said.   “I told everybody today just pick each other up, stay positive and keep encouraging each other.”

The Huskers will take today off before returning for day 13 of fall camp on Friday.  Nebraska kicks off its season on August 27th in Dublin, Ireland against Northwestern.
