Whipple Encouraged About Thompson, Busch on “Trench Game”

Nebraska’s offensive and defensive coordinators met with reporters yesterday as the Huskers prepare to battle Wisconsin on Saturday.

Offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, who took a sideline hit last week, described his injury as a sprained MCL.  Whipple said he’ll spend the next two games up in the coaches box and joked “Casey will probably be happy I’m up there.”  As for Thompson, Whipple said he’s a lot more encouraged about the quarterback’s chances of playing this week.

Defensive coordinator Bill Busch says Saturday’s contest against Wisconsin will be another “trench game.”

“I know how much they preach their toughness, the physicality, able to run the ball, and obviously have a very gifted quarterback,” Busch said.  “We’ve got our hands full, but we’ve prepared extremely well.”

Saturday’s kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 11 a.m.  The pregame begins at 7 a.m. on News Talk 900 KJSK.  Coverage on 93.5 The Hawk starts at 10:30 a.m.
