Weidner Leads Flyers to Girls Basketball State Crown
Allison Weidner wrapped up her stellar prep career by leading Humphrey St. Francis to a 57-48 victory over Falls City Sacred Heart in today’s girls basketball D2 state championship game at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Weidner, who will play her college ball for Nebraska, scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds and added five steals as the Flyers completed a perfect season at 25-0.
The game was tied at 39-all in the closing seconds of the third quarter when Weidner made a steal near midcourt and went in for a tie-breaking layup.
St. Francis pulled away in the final period to win its fourth state championship and first since 2007. The Flyers had to settle for a D2 runner-up finish in two of the last three seasons, including a loss to Sacred Heart in the 2018 championship game.
Weidner winds up third on the Nebraska girls basketball career scoring list.
The Irish went 26-3 and earned their fifth runner-up finish rather than their seventh state title.
