Weekend Recap For Columbus’ Three American Legion Baseball Teams

The Columbus Cornerstone Seniors won two of three home games over the weekend. 

Cornerstone downed Papio South 3-1 Friday night, as Alex Griffith tossed a complete game, allowing one run on just three hits.  He didn’t walk a batter and had seven strikeouts.  Columbus split a doubleheader against Millard South on Saturday, losing the opener 8-3, but winning the second contest 9-5.  The Seniors are 14-11 on the season. 

The Columbus OneNebraska Junior Blues went 2-2 in a tournament at Bellevue West.  On Friday, the Junior Blues fell to Lincoln North Star 5-2, before pounding Omaha Skutt 15-7 in five innings.  The Junior Blues were downed by Elkhorn South 5-3 on Saturday, but earned a 4-3 win in nine innings over Bellevue West yesterday.  Columbus is now 12-9. 

And the Columbus Owens Wealth Advisors Junior Reds went 3-1 at home this weekend.  On Saturday, the Junior Reds beat Elkhorn South 11-3 in five innings and edged the Millard Gold Sox 5-4 in eight frames.  The Junior Reds split a twin bill Sunday against Lincoln Standing Bear, winning 7-5 before losing 6-4 in six innings.  The Junior Reds are 13-8.
