Vikings To Face Pierce for Football Title, Cougars vs. Jaguars

Lakeview’s football team earned its second-ever appearance in the state championship – it’s first since 1990 – with a 31-21 victory at Kearney Catholic Friday night.  Adam Van Cleave caught two long touchdown passes from fellow senior Kolby Blaser to help the Vikings post their ninth consecutive win.

Lakeview improved to 10-2 on the season and will meet another 10-2 club in Pierce at Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium in the Class C1 final on Tuesday, November 23rd at 10:15 a.m.  The Bluejays blanked Battle Creek 21-0 in Friday night’s other C1 semifinal.  The Vikings lost a heart-breaker at Pierce on September 3rd, falling 28-27 when a late two-point conversion attempt failed.

Lakeview is looking to win its first state championship, while this will mark the third straight year that Pierce has reached the final.  The Bluejays won their fourth title last year.

Two area teams are set to hook up in the D1 championship.  In Friday’s semifinals, Cross County whipped Hitchcock County 56-20 and Howells-Dodge thumped Burwell 56-18.  The Cougars and Jaguars will square off in the title tilt on Monday, November 22nd.  Kickoff is set for 10:15 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
