Lakeview Football Wins Opener, Girls Golf and XC Results

Lakeview’s football team pulled away in the fourth quarter Friday night as the Vikings topped Omaha Gross 41-21 in the season opener at Ralston High.

Lakeview quarterback Clayton Thomson found Blake Rathbone for an 11-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter to put the Vikings up 17-6.  But, the Cougars responded with a 46-yard touchdown pass – after posting a 56-yard bomb earlier in the game – and Lakeview only led 17-14 after three quarters.

Thomson took over in the fourth quarter as the Vikings senior had touchdown rushes of one and 39 yards, and on defense he returned an interception 29 yards for a score.  Lakeview kicker Brandon DeAnda hit a 39-yard field goal in the final period, after making a 34-yarder earlier in the game.

The Vikings defense came up with six takeaways, including three interceptions and three fumble recoveries while Lakeview’s offense only committed one turnover.

Next up for the Vikings is their home opener against Adams Central next Friday on KLIR 101.

In other sports on Friday, Lakeview’s girls golf team finished eighth in the Seward Invitational.  Quinn Loseke had the Vikings top individual score at 103.   And three Lakeview girls medaled in the Grand Island Northwest cross country meet.  Elle Badstieber was 10th and Tessa Miller took 15th in the Gold division, while Lacy Lemburg was 12th in the Silver division.  Eli Escen had the best finish for the Vikings boys, earning 20th in the Gold division.
