Verge, McGowens Pick Up Weekly Big Ten Awards

Nebraska men’s basketball players Alonzo Verge Jr. and Bryce McGowens earned weekly honors from the Big Ten on Monday.
Verge shared player of the week honors with Iowa’s Keegan Murray, while McGowens was named freshman of the week. Both were recognized following the Huskers’ 2-0 week which included road wins over No. 23 Ohio State and tenth-ranked Wisconsin.
Verge averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 assists in those two games. McGowens won his eighth freshman weekly award after scoring a game-high 26 points at Ohio State. It was his 11th 20-point game of the season, breaking NU’s freshman record.
