GRAND ISLAND- U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has announced that the Gering-Ft. Laramie-Goshen irrigation tunnel collapse was caused by unusually high precipitation.

The Risk Management Agency has determined that since the collapse happened due to a natural cause, it will be an insurable event for ag producers affected by the irrigation disruption. Senator Ben Sasse says the decision is great news for those affected…

On July 17, a 2,200 foot long tunnel partially collapsed along the Fort Laramie Canal. The water disruption has affected 107,000 acres of corn, sugar beets, dry edible beans and alfalfa crops grown in the region.
