Two Lakeview wrestlers earned medals, while nine area grapplers won championships at the state wrestling tournament on Saturday in Omaha. 

In Class B, Lakeview junior Andon Stenger finished in fourth place at 120 pounds and Vikings senior Austen Smith took fifth at 195. In the final team standings Lakeview finished 19th and Schuyler was 37th, four spots ahead of Scotus.

Central City won the team title in Class C, while Aquinas Catholic was second and David City took third. 

Among the nine state  champions from our area, two Bison wrestlers had highlights: junior Drew Garfield completed an unbeaten 47-0 campaign to win at C106 and senior Dyson Kunz won his second gold medal in as many years while recording his 200th career win in the championship match at 138 pounds. Two others won their second state title in two years: David City senior Dylan Vodicka completed a 54-0 season at C182 and Nebraska Christian senior Carl Mundt earned gold at 220 pounds.

Other area wrestlers who won titles were: Central City junior Cole Kunz, St. Paul sophomore Kaleb Baker, Aquinas junior Christopher Nickolite, Cross County/Osceola junior Cameron Graham and Centennial junior Carson Fehlhafer.
