Two Columbus Residents Rescued From Residential Fire

COLUMBUS- Thursday evening at 8:20 pm, the Columbus Fire Department was alerted for a residential structure fire in the 1600 block of 12th Street.

While in route, crews were notified that there were victims reported to be trapped. Upon arrival crews found smoke showing from a two story residence and received confirmation that two occupants were trapped in the residence. Crews began an aggressive rescue tactic to rescue the victims from the second story window. Prior to crews making entry, one occupant self-rescued. Crews then made entry and removed a second victim. The fire was quickly extinguished shortly after removal of the second victim. Both victims were transported to Columbus Community Hospital and their condition is unknown at this time. The home did suffer significant fire and water damage.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the affected family. The fire was contained to the second story of the residence. The fire is being investigated.
