State Wrestling: Four Discoverers, Two Vikings Make Semifinals

Four Columbus High wrestlers have advanced to today’s semifinals of the Class A state wrestling meet.

The Discoverers who won their first two matches yesterday were Brenyn Delano, Adrian Bice, Mason Petersen and Caydn Kucera.  Columbus was fifth in the team standings, after finishing third last year.

Lakeview wrestlers Owen Bargen and Landon Ternus have reached the semifinals in Class B.  The two wins for Ternus made him 43-0 on the season.  Lakeview was tied for 13th in the team standings.  Scotus’ lone wrestler at state, Hunter Brunkhorst, lost his opening match.

In Class C, Boone Central had the best day of any area team by finishing Thursday in fifth place.  Central City was in eighth and the Bisons’ Tristan Burbach is still unbeaten at 46-0.  Aquinas, which won the Class C team title last year, was comfortably in first place after the first day on the Class D mats.  Shelby-Rising City was fourth, one spot ahead of Howells-Dodge.

It was a tough day for local girls wrestlers as five of six lost their first-round matches.  Lakeview’s Lacy Lemburg won her opening match, but lost in the quarterfinals.
