State VB: Vikings, Eagles Fall; Flyers, Jags to Finals
Lakeview fell to Kearney Catholic in the C1 semifinals of the state volleyball tournament this afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena, while Humphrey St. Francis and Howells-Dodge advanced to tomorrow’s finals at the Devaney Center.
Lakeview took the first two sets, 25-17, 25-18. But the Stars completed a day of comebacks by winning the next three sets, 25-20, 25-15, 15-5. The Vikings fell to 31-5 and will compete in the third place match at Lincoln Northeast tomorrow at 9 a.m.
St. Francis defeated Maywood-Hayes Center in four sets in the D2 semifinals. The Flyers rallied to win 19-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-12. HSF improved to 25-5 and will face Sacred Heart in the championship tomorrow at 9 a.m. on KZ-100.
In today’s D1 semifinals, Howells-Dodge dropped the first two sets to Nebraska Christian, before the Jaguars rallied past the Eagles. H-D won 23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-14, 15-5 to improve to 30-3. The Jags will battle Archbishop Bergan for the D1 title on KZEN tomorrow at 11 a.m. Nebraska Christian is 29-4 and will meet Elmwood-Murdock for third place at Northeast, starting at 1 p.m.
