Scotus Sports Standout Mike Cielocha Passes Away

Mike Cielocha, who starred in track and other sports for Scotus Central Catholic, passed away Wednesday at Columbus Community Hospital. 

A 1979 Scotus graduate, Cielocha won or shared five all-class gold medals in track.  He won nine Class B gold meals while leading the Shamrocks track team to the team title as a junior and senior. 

Cielocha was also named to the Class B all-state football team in 1978.  He also played basketball at Scotus, before attending the University of Nebraska where he was captain of the track team. 

He was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.  Cielocha was a color analyst alongside Verl Wurtz on KLIR 101 for many years.  He was 61.
